Treating substance use disorder and co-occurring trauma issues is critical. Women need their own environment to heal that provides safety, the ability to choose, trustworthiness, collaboration and empowerment. They want to feel safe in their own space. They want to be able to make choices regarding their recovery. They want the ability to collaborate instead of being commanded. When women have the supportive environment to heal in, they can empower each other. HERO Program at New Beginnings provides such an environment for female veterans to begin the healing process.
There are many different therapy modalities to treat co-occurring symptoms with SUD and trauma. Having the different options on campus allows us to connect and process the issues tied to each individual woman's needs. We will offer Brainspotting, EMDR, Ecotherapy, Recreation therapy, Art Therapy, and others.
While at HERO, females will be separate from the male population to create a safe living environment. They will have gender specific groups to discuss female specific experiences while also having co-ed groups when discussing general issues. Our clinical team believes in trauma informed yoga and meditation to help create a feeling of safety in one's own body.
Ultimately our program is designed to focus on rebuilding a trusting relationship with the self, including the physical body, to produce empowerment and confidence in the world.
